UX project set by Spotify, asking for ways to encourage sharing and community in the world of music listening.
To achieve this I opted to add to and expand on the suite of social features in the already successful Spotify apps, so that friends can interact with each other not only through text- but music as well.
ui/ux, brand integration
An all new Friends section has been added to the Spotify apps. This is now the home to view all of your friends’ activity, as well as sharing your own music with them.
Content Shared by friends, including playlists, albums, artists and songs, appears as a feed on the page, along with things that they have simply Liked as well. Navigation at the top of the page allows you to view your Friends list and content from the feed that you’ve Liked.
The current ‘Listening Now’ feature from the desktop has also been adapted to the mobile app, appearing in a similar fashion to ‘stories’ on social media. The Spotify green ring around a face shows who’s currently listening to music.
Tapping on a friend's face shows you what they were listening to most recently; options for you to interact with the song yourself, such as Like or Queue, appear underneath.
Clicking the Share button allows you to make your own post based on whatever you’re listening to right now. Adding a caption will make your friends more likely to listen themselves! When you make a new playlist, that gets shared in the feed as well.
These new features have also been added to the mobile app. The Friends feed is simplified for the smaller screen sizes, with large artwork and easy to tap interactions choices.
