Concept and creation of a new universal electric car charging network.

A 2016 UK government survey found that the biggest reason deterring people from purchasing electric cars was the issue of recharging them.

The second biggest was battery range, a clearly linked issue.
So, what can we do to solve this problem?

Superchargers charge much faster than other electric vehicle chargers currently available.

This means that with average speeds a car will charge up fully in about an hour, with recommend − ed charge times of 30 minutes.

The car automatically reroutes your journey so that you pass available charging stations when neccessary .

Tesla superchargers are only available to Tesla owners , but this is purely a software block− the technology itself is universal .

• Juice is a network of fast chargers placed all across the UK, and it is open to everyone.

• Apps for your phone & car guide to the charging points themselves, where the power comes at incredible value- less than half the average cost of petrol

• Clean, modern, and easy to understand, you no longer need to be a technology expert to own an electric car

The Juice logo went through a variety of iterations before settling on the final version, shown left. I used imagery of positive energy and batteries, to convey Juice’s place as an electric charging network.

The Juice mobile app allows customers to view the status of all of their vehicles, find charging points, and check their spending and energy usage.

The app can switch between a light and dark mode, depending on time of day or user preference.

The in-vehicle interface is designed to be incredibly simple, as complex actions are not viable when driving.

Showing only diagnostic information for your car and the in-built SatNav system, this UI would appear on a vehicle’s existing display.

The interface on the charging points themselves is familiar to that of the vehicle, to make it as intuitive for users as possible.

It displays the charging status of the car, as well as the current cost.
