Collaborative project to dip our toes into the world of motion graphics.
Film title sequence in the style of the James Bond series, using post-Ian Fleming novel ‘Forever and a Day’, by Anthony Horowitz, as inspiration.
motion graphics, video/sound editing, collaboration
As all of the original James Bond books by Ian Fleming have already been made into Eon Productions films, we had to look elsewhere for our title sequence.
‘Forever and a Day’ is an officially licensed modern entry into the series written by Anthony Horowitz, and was a perfect inspiration for our project.
We identified some of the key themes of the story as:
All the James Bond title sequences have an original song accompanying them- they tend to follow the general themes of mystery and suspense, often with use of orchestral elements.
For our version, we selected ‘Dracula Teeth’ by The Last Shadow Puppets, as it felt harmonious with the previous entries while also having its own identity.
Work began by storyboarding the general progression of the sequence
From there, we fully designed each frame of the sequence. We chose to stick to a limited colour scheme of black, white and red, as this was visually striking and allowed us to naturally transition between each ‘scene’ of the sequence easily.
To create the first shot, we experimented with syringing red ink in water. Filmed in slow motion, this creates the impression of smoke.
